Start with the constraint

A good route still works when one day changes.

Every duration includes arrival and departure: seven days means six nights, ten days means nine, and fourteen days means thirteen. Start with the actual flights, then compare how many complete days each route leaves in the places that interest you. The guides show alternatives that exchange nights rather than quietly extending the holiday.

Steps and a fenced path through grassland beneath CotopaxiQuito · optional Cotopaxi · Baños
01

7 days · 6 nights · Quito · optional Cotopaxi · Baños

A city, a mountain choice and a valley day.

Choose this route for a first trip built around Quito’s historic center and the waterfall valley around Baños. Three initial Quito nights provide a complete city day and a choice between Cotopaxi and another city visit. Cotopaxi is a day trip returning to the same room, rather than a third accommodation base. Higher walking is optional.

The two Baños nights contain one full outing day: choose the Waterfall Route or one guided activity. Return to the Quito area on day six before departing on day seven. For two full days in Baños, remove the Cotopaxi day and move earlier. Leave an Amazon stay or a coastal detour for a longer allocation.

A long canoe crossing a broad river in Ecuadorian AmazoniaQuito · Baños · Tena area
02

10 days · 9 nights · Quito · Baños · Tena area

Give the Amazon two complete days.

Choose this route when rivers, forest walks or a hosted Napo farm visit matter as much as city sightseeing. The nine nights are Quito three, Baños two, one Tena-area base three and a final Quito-area night. Choose either town accommodation with arranged outings or one lodge with a coordinated program before fixing the transfers.

The Tena arrival and exit each have their own travel day, leaving two complete days for different activities. A Waterfall Route day in Baños can pair with a forest or river day near Tena without repeating the same experience. Cuyabeno and Yasuní use different gateways and programs; they cannot simply replace Tena while retaining every road connection in this calendar.

Tomebamba River moving through CuencaQuito · Baños · Cuenca
03

14 days · 13 nights · Quito · Baños · Cuenca

Spend more time inside each place.

Choose the mainland route for historic cities, markets, regional food and highland outings. Stay four nights in Quito, three in Baños, five in Cuenca and one final night in the Quito area. The longer Cuenca stay leaves room for the historic center, a craft or museum visit, an optional Cajas outing and a spare city day.

The main booking decision is the long Baños–Cuenca road journey on day eight. The guide explains an alternative using a Quito overnight and a flight, with a corresponding reduction in Cuenca nights. The default return is a confirmed Cuenca–Quito flight on day thirteen. Adding the Pacific coast would require exchanging nights and planning the extra transfers.

A green Galápagos headland meeting deep Pacific waterQuito · Santa Cruz · Isabela
04

14 days · 13 nights · Quito · Santa Cruz · Isabela

Eight island nights, with the returns counted.

Choose this hotel-based route for Quito followed by distinct Galápagos land and marine days. Four initial Quito nights lead into three nights on Santa Cruz and four on Isabela. Return to Santa Cruz for night twelve, fly to the mainland on day thirteen and depart internationally on day fourteen. The eight island nights include that final Santa Cruz stay.

Santa Cruz has two full days for highlands, conservation, coast or a selected boat outing; Isabela has three for volcanic, marine and wetland interests. Actual access and conditions determine the sequence. If open-water transfers or repeated packing do not suit you, the guide offers all eight island nights on Santa Cruz. A cruise needs a separate calendar around its exact sailing.

Los Frailes beach and Pacific headlands on the Ecuadorian coastGuayaquil · Puerto López · Olón
05

7 days · 6 nights · Guayaquil · Puerto López · Olón

A coastal week with time in each base.

Start with the coastal experience you most want: Guayaquil’s riverfront and food, Puerto López’s land-and-boat outings, or the beach rhythm around Montañita and Olón. This route assigns nights to those different settings and treats the moves between them as travel days. Match the final stop to the airport you will use before reserving the accommodation.

If the trip is appropriate for your circumstances, the example allocates Guayaquil on nights one and six, Puerto López on nights two through four, and Olón or Montañita on night five. That gives two full Machalilla outing days and only a brief beach-town stay. The simpler alternative keeps four middle nights in Puerto López, removing a hotel change and adding another land or boat opportunity.
