01Guiding
Agree the language and group arrangement
Confirm the guiding language, whether outings are shared or private, and the expected group size. Tell the lodge if you need a slower pace or have a particular interest. Specialist birding and a general introduction can involve different guides and schedules.
02Inclusions
Ask for a complete written price
Separate accommodation, meals, airport pickup, river transfers, guided activities and any site or community charges. Ask about drinks, tips, additional excursions and flight bookings. A package may include most forest activities while still excluding the journey to Coca.
03Clothing and equipment
Check what the lodge supplies
Napo Cultural Center lists boots and ponchos among its guest provisions, but confirm sizes and availability for your booking. Bring comfortable clothing for humid conditions and a dry change for the return. Ask about binoculars before deciding whether to carry your own.
04Rooms and meals
Describe needs before arrival
Ask about ventilation, screens, electricity, charging and the distance or steps between your room and shared areas. Give dietary requirements in advance. The operator can answer more usefully when you describe a specific need rather than asking whether the lodge is suitable for everyone.
05Cultural visits
Let the hosts define the encounter
Book visits that are offered by willing hosts, ask about payment and follow their photography guidance. Choose a workshop, conversation or interpretation session because it interests you. The value comes from what people choose to share, not from trying to measure how unchanged a community appears.
06Daily pace
Keep room for the lodge itself
Between outings, spend time observing from the permitted areas around the property, writing notes or resting. A three- or four-night stay gives you more opportunities to notice the same place at different times. Those quieter intervals can be as memorable as a named excursion.
