01Party and boat
Confirm seats, space and participation.
Record the vessel name, permitted passenger count, private or shared basis, and how many people may fish at once. Then add the toilet, shade, seating and boarding arrangement. Ask whether an accompanying non-angler pays the same fare and what activities are actually available to them. Request recent photographs of the offered boat if these details matter; the editorial photographs on this page are contextual and cannot establish the equipment or comfort of a named operator.
02Money and inclusions
Use one currency and one charging basis.
Have the quote name its currency and whether it covers a person, a whole party or the whole vessel. Record total duration, anticipated fishing time, fuel, tackle, bait or lures, instruction, guide language, meals, drinks, land transfers, tender transfers, permissions, taxes and explicit exclusions. Ask how damaged or lost tackle is handled. A lower per-person amount on a shared departure may offer less fishing time per guest; a private price divided by an assumed full boat may conceal the actual cost for your smaller party.
03Changing the booking
Get departure-specific terms.
Ask for the deposit, balance date, cancellation deadline and treatment of weather, sea restrictions, operator cancellation and a passenger’s decision not to board. Establish whether the remedy is a refund, a moved date or credit, and what happens to separately booked transfers. Chárter Manta publishes different payment arrangements for shared and exclusive reservations; confirm which apply to the fishing product. A general website policy or marketplace badge does not settle every condition of a direct booking.
04Weather and targeting
Keep four different questions separate.
A broad coastal season, a species-targeting advertisement, a legal fishing calendar and tomorrow’s marine forecast answer different questions. Ask what the operator targets on your date and what it will do if conditions prevent that plan. Consult INOCAR’s sea-state and tide bulletins for the relevant area and valid dates close to departure. The when-to-visit guide supplies climate context; it cannot guarantee a calm crossing, a catch or a legal opening.
05Mainland paperwork
Avoid blanket visitor-license claims.
Ecuador’s 2022 fishing regulation, articles 196–203, distinguishes recreational fishing modes and related authorizations. That text alone does not resolve the current procedure for every visiting charter participant. Ask the provider to identify its operating category, the vessel authorization and any documents you need, with the responsible authority named. We do not claim that foreign visitors universally need a separate license or that a charter universally removes that requirement.
06Your time aboard
Choose a day everyone can use.
Explain experience level, language and boarding needs in the initial inquiry. Ask when the crew gives instruction and how beginners can participate without competing for one person’s attention. Pack what the confirmed boat and outing require, with dry storage for items you need after landing. If the party’s interests diverge sharply, separate outings can work better than asking a fishing trip to become a wildlife cruise. Our private-travel guide helps compare the value of dedicated guide time and transfers.
